Check to see if the surface area decreased

Remember that the whole PBAT was about minimizing the surface area while maintaining the volume.... check and double-check to see if your new surface area indeed is smaller than the old surface area

Extensions for the PBAT

1. Percentage of difference - Surface Area: Research what the percentage of difference is and find and explain the percentage of difference between the old and new surface area
2. Domain and range: Research what "the domain and range" of a function are, and find and explain the domain and range of your surface area function.
3. Significant digit: Research what the significant digit is and find and explain what significant digits we should keep for our project.
4. (Updated) Try an alternate approach to confirm your findings (hint: solve the volume formula for r, instead of h) and show that your results are still the same.  Make connections between the two approaches.

A sample letter to a company for the PBAT - The Can Project

I just wrote a sample letter for you to read.  I actually had a lot of fun writing this letter.  I hope you have fun while you write yours.  I might have put too much silliness in the letter, so please refrain from using too much of that.  Otherwise, good luck!  Don't forget that the first draft is due next Tuesday, 5/18.

Due Dates for the letter - PBAT: The Can Project

Next week (The 3rd week of May)

• Creating models of the old and the new cans - (M) 5/17/10
• First draft of the letter - (T) 5/18/10

The week after next week (The 4th week of May)

• Second draft of the letter - (T) 5/25/10
• Final draft of the letter - (F) 5/28/10

Then we will have two weeks in June to prepare for the presentation.  The first week of June would be used for preparing slides and speaker notes.  The second week of June would be used for mock presentations.
