Due Dates for the Report as discussed in class

11.1 - 11:59pm Monday, March 29, 2010
11.2 - 11:59pm Wednesday, March 31, 2010
11.3 - 11:59pm Monday, March 29, 2010
11.4 - 11:59pm Monday, March 29, 2010

Also, if you are not finished yet with your report and you need me to comment on your report further, let me know by commenting on this post.

If you did finish the report, I will be putting on some final comments to help myself evaluate your report. You might as well read those comments, since they may help you with your PBAT.

Good job, everyone! This project has been a tough one, and many of you performed with gusto, most of you did well, and some of you learned what to do differently for PBAT.

Report Rubric

Here's the link to the rubric.

New York Consortium Math Performance Based Assessment Task (PBAT) Rubric

Your Scanned Graphs

If anyone does not see their submitted graphs as picture files in the Google Docs folder, please let me know. I scanned all of the graphs that have been submitted so far and put them in the folders.

If you submitted the graphs to be scanned, but don't see a Shared Folder in the Google Docs, that means I need your email address.

Writing Your Mathematics Report

Scholarly papers in mathematics use a variety of different formats and themes. For this practice PBAT project, here's my suggestion.

Title
  • The title conveys the central point of your task. Be short and direct. “Celebrating with Fireworks: Applying Quadratic Functions.”
Focusing Question
  • This is the question that you're ultimately answering with your conclusion.
Introduction
  • Tell the readers what they need to know in order to understand your Body section.
  • This should give the basic outline of what's going to be in your document.
Body
  • Explain the process. Break down the major steps of your task into paragraphs.
  • Explain what your tables show. (Also explain each design's function.)
Conclusion
This is your ... "So what?" Your body explains "what happened." So, what can you conclude from it?
  • State what you can conclude from your work.
Discussion
  • What can you infer from your conclusion?
  • What is the best design according to your conclusion?
  • Why do you think so?
Inquiry Process
D.O.L.-type reflection
  • What did you learn?
  • What would you do differently?
  • Why was this project useful?
Work References
  • Who did what?

Acknowledgments
Give thanks.
  • Who helped you?
  • How did they help you?

Figures and Tables
All of your tables and graphs should go here.
  • Number each table as "Table 1, Table 2, Table 3, etc..."
  • Number each graph as "Figure 1, Figure 2."

Appendix
Any extra information goes here. Did you do a table that you did not include above? Include it here. Any extra graphs? This is where you put it.

Progress Update 2

It's time for another progress update!

What you need to write about: (This post needs to be very detailed since you will be getting graded for this.)

1. Mathematical Methods
  • How did you "generalize?"
  • How did you set up your axes when graphing?
  • How did you organize your data into different tables?

2. Mathematical Vocabulary
  • When writing your new post, use proper mathematical vocabulary.
3. Process and Solution
  • Clearly communicate your findings. What did you discover when you put all your findings together?

Online Assignments: Self-Check

Click on the following link and honestly fill out the following self-check form.

Homework for Today (T) 3/2/10

Create a new post that describes how much progress you have achieved as a team today. For example, how many tables did you complete? Did you find the maximum volume? What new designs did you try?
